Armidale Airport is a regional airport serving the city of Armidale, located halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. The airport is small in size but serviced by a handful of scheduled flights to domestic locations. It was announced that an extensive upgrade plan will transform the airport into a regional transport hub, with the government investing heavily in the airport. The plans include enhancements to the terminal building, increasing the number of aircraft stands and new baggage handling facilities. Currently the airport has space for three aircraft and has two runways; however only one of them is covered in asphalt, the other is comprised of a grassed gravel surface.
