Flying a five-tonne oil pipe to the Ivory Coast
In February 2022, a regular customer asked us to help fly a five-tonne oil pipe from Belgium to the Ivory Coast, where it was urgently needed to keep a supply chain running. The client had started transporting the cargo by sea but this method wasn’t quick enough, so it was removed from the ship in Antwerp and taken to Liège Airport to travel the rest of the way by air. We worked around the clock to find a suitable aircraft at short notice.
Our Solution
Route: Liège > Abidjan
Aircraft: Antonov An-26
We managed to find a rear-loading Antonov An-26 that could carry the long pipe and was available for this last-minute charter. The heavy cargo almost exceeded the aircraft’s maximum weight, so we had to incorporate several fuel stops along the way in order to complete the journey.
