Enjoy a private viewing of elephants meandering through Chobe National Park during a stay at this timeless tented oasis, serenely perched on the banks of the Savute Channel.

Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge

Recently reopened following a total rebuild, this sustainably designed lodge is one of Botswana’s finest safari experiences. Exclusively located in an area of Chobe National Park – the Elephant Capital of the World – where humans are otherwise banned, its unrivalled position gives guests an unprecedented glimpse at the intricacies of savannah life. Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is perched on the banks of the ever-changing Savute Channel, offering sensational bird’s-eye views of majestic elephants roaming in their natural habitat and further wildlife sightings on twice-daily game drives. Inside, guests can unwind in luxurious tented rooms, savour alfresco fine dining and relax in the pool and spa.

DINING

Meals are served in a traditional boma – an open-air dining area surrounding a campfire, where guests can dine under the stars and share stories of their day’s adventures. There’s also a large indoor lounge and dining area for undercover dining. Seasonal menus feature signature African dishes such as beef seswaa and traditional barbecues, with the lodge’s talented chefs making use of locally sourced ingredients. Private dinners can also be arranged on guests’ private decks, where they can enjoy dining on a specially prepared feast while feeling at one with nature as wildlife roams nearby.

ACTIVITIES

The lodge’s extraordinary position in the reserve means animals roam freely through the site and congregate at the nearby water hole, giving guests incredible viewing opportunities without setting foot outside camp. A stay here includes daily guided morning and afternoon safaris in special 4x4s, during which wildlife such as elephants, lions, wild dogs, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas can be spotted – along with over 250 bird species. Between game drives, guests can unwind in the 20-metre outdoor swimming pool or enjoy reviving treatments at the peaceful open-air spa located at the edge of the lodge. Additional optional excursions include a full-day outing to witness Africa’s second-largest zebra migration and a visit to the 1,500-year-old San Bushmen rock paintings and a cluster of giant baobab trees.

ROOMS

The lodge’s 12 tented rooms are raised on wooden platforms, giving guests a fantastic view of the savannah’s many elephants as they stroll past just metres away – a truly magical experience. Shaded by a traditional African thatched roof, each air-conditioned room boasts polished wooden floorboards, a four-poster bed with mosquito netting, a lavish ensuite bathroom, an additional outdoor shower and a dressing room with robes and slippers. The spacious private deck is furnished with easy chairs, a daybed and a dining table where guests can enjoy private meals and watch wildlife grazing nearby.
